Corporate energy purchasing for the animal & compound feed industry
The Netherlands Implementation Agenda for Sustainable Livestock Farming, the Natuur & Milieu foundation and the Netherlands Association for the Animal Feed Industry (Nevedi) have worked together on increasing sustainability in animal feed. In addition to a more sustainable product, sustainability in combination with smart energy purchasing also spreads the risk. Spreading purchases of corporate energy on the futures market (fixed prices) and the day-ahead market (variable prices) offers security as well as flexibility.
Sustainability
Frameworks for climate issues and circularity are expected to increase. Animal feed companies are exploring options to become more sustainable and save money. For example, insects are offered as a new protein source , protein-rich cattle feed must originate from the EU as much as possible and digitisation is increasing. Managing energy flows can also contribute in this area, as a result of which solar panels, electrification and batteries can be attractive options.
Nevedi
The Netherlands Association for the Animal Feed Industry spreads its purchases of collective energy for its members. In 2020, this resulted in savings of 14% on electricity and 27% on gas. As an energy partner, we also support Nevedi members in the application of sustainable solutions such as solar panels and energy saving.
