Why is energy purchase spreading important for the meat industry?

Companies in the meat industry consume an enormous amount of energy. Keeping, feeding, transporting, slaughtering, processing, packaging and storing animals/meat are all part of the chain. By purchasing corporate energy at the most favourable times on the market, you can save costs throughout the process.

An example: During off-peak hours (evening/night) energy is usually cheaper. For a slaughterhouse that stores meat in cold stores, it is smart to buy energy at that time and to have the cold stores cooled at the maximum setting. At that time, the refrigeration units are cooling at a potentially cheaper rate and because they have been cooling at the maximum setting during the night, they can be switched back to the minimum setting during the day. In addition to the futures market, Scholt Energy also uses the day-ahead market.
