Over three years of successful flexibility market in Nijmegen-Noord

In Nijmegen-Noord, a flexibility market was set up over three years ago by Van der Valk, Lidl, Liander and Scholt Energy. This enabled to continue the rapid growth of housing and industry in the area, pending the completion of a new electricity substation in 2023. Without a flexibility market, congestion would be created in the electricity grid.

Deployment of flexibility

At various times, there was such a shortage on the electricity grid that the hotel had to use the buffer in the thermal energy storage system, Lidl turned down the refrigeration installation and injected power into the grid from the energy storage system.
